Fun and Frolics in the Blue Mountains!
Layers of Vilene Spunbond CS 500 and 800 zapped and layered with polyester organza and mounted on hessian.
Phew! what a week - it was very full on what with staying in Katoomba and teaching in Springwood but we coped admirably with lovely students providing lifts. I was staying in a little house with my wonderful friend Mary Hettmansperger who was also teaching and who makes the most beautiful metal jewellery.
All the classes for the Contextart Forum were held at Springwood High School or Korowai School. I had 14 students in my class which overlooked the school playing field. Everyone got on very well and all were happy to work on samples rather than make anything considered 'finished'. The group worked well together and we all soon gelled.
You can almost hear the cogs turning with concentration.
Sulpher Crested Cockatoos wrecking a tree out side our window.
I'm afraid I was bit naughty now and then when I had to stop the class every time I heard a different bird call, they are SO different to our little twittery birds, I just had to rush over to the window and have a look.
Although it wasn't part of the course, the group wanted to try the newspapaer techniques . . .
We also tried cutting 'Applique' shapes with a soldering iron.
Natural undyed fabrics and threads decorated with painted Bondaweb and hand stitch.
A Tyvek wall hangining
Faux chenille with Japanese papers.
Fabulous vessels made from very heavy iron-on interfacing.
Synthetic fabrics with plain Bondaweb ironed onto the back and then cut with a soldering iron. The shapes are then ironed onto a background.
More layered newspaper which has then been quilted.
Jo managed to defy gravity by creatig this amazing little vessel from Vilene Spunbond CS800.
A delightful sample further decorated with machine stitch and metal embellishments.
A beautiful cascade of Vilene Spunbond CS500 and CS800
The newspapaer faux chenille samples just lend themselves to being made into vessels.
A lovely layered piece using Tyvek, painted Bondaweb and zapped CS500 and CS800.
Newspaper faux chenille.
Luscious Layers of Vilene Spunbond, embossing powders, beads and hand stitch.
My FABULOUS group
I had the biggest surprise when this lovely man walked into my classroom, I couldn't believe he was going to be a student - he is only Rick Mcgill, master milliner. He has made head pieces and hats for nearly all the major shows and operas that have graced these shores - he is SO talented. Rick and I met two years ago at another Tafta Forum and got on really well. We are off to see the Lace Exhibition tomorrow at the Powerhouse Museum - I am SO excited, We will have a great time.
. . . and of course it wasn't all work - there were one or two parties - Guess who won 'The Most Fabulous Wearing of False Eyelashes' competition?????
I had the most amazing week in The Blue Mountains - WELL DONE ALL!

Those eye lashes are so you - can't wait to see you wearing them in the summer! xx
