Education is never a waste - and it's never too late . . .
Well my first live Zoom didn't go too badly at all. I had 14 lovely ladies in the group who were great fun, and were patient while I learned how to 'pin'. There weren't too many hold ups and I think the flow was there. Zoom can never replace being the same room with your students, but it was a good second best as it was in real time. I have now discovered there is a 'spotlight' function that will help us all see one students work. Who thought we would all be learning all these new skills?
A fabulous torn sample that works so well as the colour palette chosen is analogous/tones of one colour with silver highlights.
It took a long time to set up for the workshop. Trying to think ahead. The students had a list of materials to paint and collect together before the workshop. The workshop was A New Starting Point, so we were working with painted Bondaweb, painted papers, gilding flake and transfer foils. The worst thing was not being there and being able to pull something out of my bag to give them. Some fab gilding flake or colour transfer foil that they didn't have.

Everyone coped well and produced several samples. The price of the course includes a 2 hour group 'Show and Tell' 2 weeks after the workshop. I am hoping the students will carry on working with the technique and maybe stitch into one or 2 of their samples. I have recommended that the group apply iron on interfacing to support their paper samples if they want to stitch onto them. For a thin but strong support I recommend Vlieseline F220 https://www.vlieseline.com/Products/Fusible-Interlinings/F-220. It is quite soft and doesn't change the handle of the work too much.
If the members of the group want to go for making book covers or boxes, then the leather-like Decovil 1 or the Decovil 1 light would work well. https://www.vlieseline.com/Products/Creative-Range/Decovil-I-Light

It was wonderful to be teaching again, if via a computer screen. I so miss seeing the faces and hearing the laughter. It was a real boost. I will keep to a maximum of 14 in a group. I will get used to keeping track of everyone and in future it shouldn't be quite so - exhausting!!
Here are a few more samples from the workshop.

My next live Zoom workshops - €65 includes the one day workshop and the follow up 2 hour group 'Show and Tell' 2 weeks later.

I love working with transfer paints and synthetic fabrics. You can create such a amazing layered prints as the paints are translucent. We will work with a variety of synthetics, and natural fabrics. A soldering iron will be an important part of your kit for this workshop. Up to 20 watts is fine. With a fine tip. You will also need a terracotta flower pot to stand the soldering iron in. Of course, Bondaweb will also be involved!!
This blog post will give you an idea of what is involved - http://hot-textiles.blogspot.com/2014/09/transforming-transfer-art-van-go-2-4_12.html
