The Northern Ireland Embroidery Guild 17th - 19th January - part the first

A fabulous sample created on the short On the Surface workshop Saturday afternoon.

After a dismal start on Friday - I eventually arrived in Belfast 4 hours late. I missed my flight as the M23 was closed due to flooding. A journey that usually takes 30 minutes took three and a half hours - aarrgHH!!!

I was met by the lovely Janet who whisked me away to look at the sea and then off to a local bird sanctuary - Castle Espie, where I had the best rhubarb pie and ice cream I have ever had - deeelicious!
Then it was on to Chez Breen to meet Catherine and Noel my hosts for the next two nights. I have never been so well looked after.

This post will be in three parts as these lovely ladies created a great deal of fabulous work.

On Saturday morning I delivered my lecture which was well received - then we had lunch and I taught a short version of On the Surface. In just two and a half hours the group produced some beautiful work.

The group working hard . . .

Very intense work.

The group worked with painted Bondaweb and the usual suspects - gilding flake, dried pressed flowers, sequins, transfer foil, glitter . . . .

It is always very pleasing when a student sends a photo of work she has stitched into (hint, hint) after the workshop - Orna Doherty did just that.
These are her samples -

And here is the work stitched into - scrumptious!

I will post more in a few days . . .

I really want to have a dog again - it has been a long time since I owned one. I always thought I would want another medium to large size dog - I have never been particularly attracted to small dogs, till I met Tess. She is SOOO gorgeous, very funny.
Tess belongs to Catherine and Noel who I stayed with in Belfast. I totally fell in love with her. I hope to be able to have the time to look after a dog towards the middle of 2015 and will be looking for one just like Tess. Lord knows I need the exercise. . . . .

    1. Yes - dried hydrandea flowers are always popular but this group used them very sensitively. x
