Come with me to the Kasbah . . !
The Textile, Architecture & Craft Tour of Morocco
12th - 26th February 2026 with Aahilya Holidays
I have always wanted to travel to and around Morocco. I think it all started with those old Fry's Turkish Delight chocolate adverts in the 60's and 70's. Do you remember them? Sheikh's on horse back, Bedouin tents in the desert and of course, the heroine in yashmak and billowing silk clothes. Full of eastern promise!

The buildings we will be seeing in Morocco will be varied, mostly highly decorated with colourful tiles and wood carvings. But some will be simple, giving you time and space to just absorb the beauty. I find architecture a great inspiration and I hope you will too.
If you are thinking of traveling on your own for the first time, then an Aahilya Holiday is perfect for you. You are always accompanied by at least one guide and one tour leader. On my trips we will also be accompanied by the wonderful Khurshid who will help us to understand the context of the design and decorative processes in relation to history, and the lovely Isha will be with us too. I think most of our guests feel very well cared for. We tend have a good mix of seasoned travelers and first timers. It is good to make new friends and discover more about this exciting world.
Having led 2 x 2 week tours of Uzbekistan in March/April of this year, I can personally recommend Aahilya Holidays for their care and organisation, nothing is too much trouble. I am looking forward to 2 x 7 night trips to Istanbul in November (fully booked) - and then Morocco in February.

Morocco is a fascinating country full of colour, amazing architecture, crafts and delicious food. We will be visiting many beautiful buildings, palaces, souks, mosques, madrassas, forts, Kasbah, markets and gardens. And Yes! That tannery! We will also be taking part in several workshops.
A mosaic tile workshop, a woodcarving workshop along with a Rbati embroidery workshop in Rabat.
In Fez we will be taking part in a calligraphy workshop and an embroidery workshop. We will also be visiting a Berber women's weaving cooperative to learn about dyeing and knotting wool.
And we may well enjoy all the looking around and just possibly - shopping in the colourful markets, souks and madrassa.
I think i might need an extra case on the way home . .
One of the things I am most looking forward to, is wandering around the streets. Looking down lanes, in doorways, at windows. Watching artisans at work, just soaking up the atmosphere of this exciting and vibrant country.
Wandering around the streets of the larger cities like Fes as well as the smaller towns like Essouira, we build up a series of wonderful images and sensations, never to be forgotten.
For me I think it will be the colours that catch my imagination, but then, I haven't seen all of the beautiful buildings yet . . who knows . .
