Having fun on the Zoom workshops.

Painted and textured Tyvek and painted Lutradur cut with a soldering iron. Workshop 6 - Zap, Pow, Slash & 3D.

Well it's been a busy few weeks. We had another shoot for the new website. I think we have everything we need now. Today we were shooting with a drone for some landscape shots around the house. I think we can safely say Fizz and Pop are not fans of drones.  They HATED the noise and the hovering. So much for having shots of them from above gamboling happily in my field. Never mind - we tried.

David has already taken all the photos of my photos, we had fun moving the furniture around to get the 'feel' for each image. It will be great to be able to sell my work online. Here are few images of David from Lukewarm Volcano at work.

I am really looking forward to seeing these shots on the new website.

The Show and Tell for Raising the Surface went well. I am so glad I decided to do a show and tell 2 weeks after each workshop. It means I get to see what the group have been developing, and it gives the groups a little gentle encouragement to develop the processes they learned on the workshop.

I have a few images sent to me so I will share them with you. One of the group who starts the workshops at 5am is France. France lives in Montreal in Canada. She has a fashion background and is having great fun learning the the more textured processes that I teach.

Layers of painted Bondaweb decorated with painted and textured Tyvek, with extra fabrics and a button. All presented on a beautiful linen napkin that is just the right colour.

Another piece from France. This time painted Bondaweb was ironed onto black cotton and decorated with painted and textured Tyvek and herringbone stitch. Along with tiny sequins and a few silk fibres.

Raising the Surface was Sarah Dickin's first Zoom workshop with me. Sarah certainly hit the ground running. The three following samples show how much fun she had.

Layers of painted Bondaweb decorated with pale green transfer foil. This first layer was then decorated with painted and textured Tyvek. Strips of polyester organza and herringbone stitch. You can see how well this amount layers works when the colours in the work are similar.

We covered using textured sweet wrappers and thin plastic on the workshop.

This Friday I will be teaching Workshop 5 - Tinkering with Tyvek. All things Tyvek including boxes, bowls and beads. It's going to be great fun.

The workshops are getting more textured as we go along. Workshop 6 - Zap, Pow, Slash and 3D includes exploring, Bondaweb, Tyvek and Lutradur. Along with the heavier interfacings. Heavily textured surfaces and vessels will be the order of the day. You will discover just how exciting using your heat gun and soldering iron can be.

Heavy iron-on interfacing S133, painted and decorated with polyester organza shapes cut with a soldering iron and transfer foil. The S133 has been cut into with soldering iron.

Workshop 7 - Newspaper Faux Chenille, is shorter than the rest of the workshops, just 3 hours. I love this process. It doesn't take long to learn. You will learn the basic process and the pros and cons of working with newspaper and create some great samples. Then you will have 2 weeks to create a more considered piece for the Show and Tell 2 weeks later.

Layers of painted newspaper and polyester organza

Nothing is wasted on this workshop, all the bits from distressing the faux chenille, can be ironed onto Bondaweb or an iron on interfacing. Great fun and a fabulous background for stitch.

All the workshops have 2 or 3 spaces left (apart from this Friday) and my feeling that I needed to teach a basic Bondaweb workshop (Workshop 9 - Bonkers about Bondaweb) was correct, it is already enroling well.

I am thoroughly enjoying teaching via Zoom. Whilst it can't replace teaching in the same room, it does have a further reach and at least it is in real time. It is wonderful to see all the happy, smiling faces.

If you have questions about any of the workshops, do email me - info@kimthittichai.com

Workshop 8
Boxing clever – making boxes and decorating with backgrounds and pretties.  €65 4 spaces
Friday September 24th 10am – 4pm
+ Show and Tell Friday 8th October 10.30am – 12.30pm

Create a fabulous, sparkly box ready for the festive season.
Or something more . . subtle.
We will be making lager boxes with the very firm Vlieseline S133 and smaller boxes with the more leather like Vlieseline Decovil 1. The box shapes can be cut with a scalpel/knife. Both these wonderful interfacings have glue on one side so your decoration can be ironed onto this surface. You will choose how you decorate the box, whether it is with my ‘background and pretty’ technique, or maybe newspaper faux chenille – or maybe both. You will be using recycled papers and Bondaweb and all manner of sparkle. We will look at edges and how you might join the seams of your boxes. Also, how they might be fastened, ready for you to enjoy experimenting for the 2 weeks up to the Show and Tell 2 weeks after the workshop.
If you would rather go ‘off piste’ and work on free form sculpture – that would be fine too.

Workshop 9

to enrol - email Kim - info@kimthittichai.com

A day of 2 halves – in the morning we will work through the basics of all the creative applications for painted and unpainted Bondaweb. This will include foiling for T shirts, decorating book covers and creating beautiful surfaces on which to stitch, using all manner of sparkle or natural elements.
In the afternoon you can carry on working with Bondaweb on its own or introduce recycled papers into the mix and have a go at my Backgrounds and Pretties technique which can developed into making slip covers for books and fabulous brooches. We will also work with soldering irons to cut applique shapes.
At the end of the workshop you will have a folder of samples to develop in time for the Show and Tell 2 weeks after the workshop.
