Newspaper decorated with painted Bondweb, silk fibres, glitter and transfer foil. On Saturday I drove over to Meopham in Kent to teach one of my last one day workshops. The workshop was Hot Textiles, working with Bondaweb, Tyvek and Lutrdur/Vilene Spunbond. As some of you will know, I no longer take bookings for one day workshops, you can never get enough done. This workshop was booked 18 months ago.  Having given a lecture to this group the previous Saturday in Gravesend, I knew I was in for a good day with plenty of fun and laughter.  We started off painting up the Tyvek, Bondaweb and Lutradur/Vilene Spunbond. When working with materials that distress with heat, it is important to know how to apply colour to them, most importantly, how thinly to apply the colour. If the paint is applied too thickly, the paint will form a barrier and form a resist to the heat.   The group painting up their products. The Tyvek is always the first to dry - so we we experimented w

Baby wipe applique. I have had a busy and fun week. I made nine new videos with Jamie Malden of Colouricious on Thursday. We combined products from nid-noi.com and the printing blocks from colouricious.com/craft-supplies The new videos can be accessed on the left of the blog. They use polyester organza, Decovil 1, Decovil 1 light, S133, transfer foils and baby wipes!  It is always great fun making videos with Jamie - she relaxes you and we get a lot done.  Decovil 1 clutch bag decorated with transfer foil and a fossil printing block.    Decovil 1 decorated with torn newspaper strips, printed with small printing blocks and then defined with machine stitch. I thoroughly enjoyed creating the projects, particularly the printed polyester applique.  Printed polyester ironed onto Bondaweb and cut out with a soldering iron.  Decovil 1 light colour washed with a very dilute solution of acrylic paint and then decorated with torn newspaper. This was then print

A large skeleton leaf bonded onto a black background. The leaf then had painted Bondaweb ironed onto it which was then foiled. Just FAB! What a fabulous time I had in Canberra. I was so well looked after - in fact spoilt by my host Robyn Duncan, I didn't really want to leave. My first workshop was On the Surface - my basic one day Bondaweb workshop or Vliesofix as it is called over here. We had great fun painting and decorating the Bondaweb. The group worked hard and produced some excellent samples. We also dabbled with newspaper - it had to happen. Here are a few of the samples, using threads, paper and transfer foils. * The next workshop was a 2 day version of Creating Original Designs ad Making Printing Blocks. We started with the students painting a journey. Regular readers will be familiar with this by now. Then we did an 'expanded' and a 'flipped out' exercise. This way the group have 3 opportunities for taking sections with
