Die cut shapes from decorated newspaper ironed onto S133 interfacing. Online workshop - A New Starting Point. Being interviewed about your practice is a strange thing. Particularly when you tend not to work the same way as most of your peers. It makes you feel a bit vulnerable. However, when the interview comes out and looks and reads - quite alright really, you feel much better. This is a link to the interview. I hope you enjoy reading it. www.textileartist.org/kim-thittichai-designing-process *** This is a catch up blog post.  In August I have my last two workshops in the UK til 2019.  Beautiful inspiration for design . . and colour. This is a quick post to keep you all up to date with what is happening teaching wise.  I have now finished teaching Experimental Textiles at IDC and will be offering modules from it online from January 2018. They are likely to be 6 week modules, but I will see how everything goes this year. I am going to start online teaching at the end of May this year, but they will short courses. More technique based. As my first book Hot Textiles had been withdrawn from print - I thought I might start with that!  I have so enjoyed teaching my course Experimental Textiles in various forms over the past twenty years or so, and of course, there is also the book of the same name. It is time for me to cut down on my teaching and get on with my own work. All the time I am teaching, I can't concentrate on my own work. And it is time . . . *** It was the last weekend of ExTex as it is called in short form. It was odd - seeing the group wh

A fabulous sample of newspaper faux chenille. It is already December - I apologise for the delay in writing this up. Moving house has taken more out of me than I thought.  I adore teaching at Art Van Go. The teaching area is great, the staff are wonderful, and it means I get to see Viv and Kevin. This was my last workshop for this year. A fabulous to end the year with lots of colour and texture. Working with old newspaper, books and maps has become a passion of mine - layering, colouring and generally playing to see what will happen next.     Painting the Bondaweb. On the first part of the workshop we painted up the Bondaweb and newspapers as these need to be dry before we use them.   Painted newspaper. The students ironed painted Bondaweb onto a painted newspaper background, just an A5 size nothing too big. You learn just as much from working on a small size then anything larger and you use up your material stash too soon. The newspaper background with th

One of Sharon's great samples. I am catching up - Last week I had a fabulous 2 days at the Art Van Go studios. I always have great fun there, Viv and Kevin have become great friends in the years I have been teaching there.  'Sticky and Shiny' is a new workshop that I have written to help students understand the joys of foiling all the different glues. The glues we were working with were - KK Glue , Bondaweb , Fuse FX. We also played with Xpandaprint and embossing powders.  We had a good time playing together for 2 days and achieved some fabulous effects. Just remembering 'which way is up?' is a good start . .  then there is the baking parchment - soooooo important. The group getting down to some serious play. As most of you will know, I love Bondaweb. It is so versatile. Here a few samples of this fabulous product. Bondaweb cut to shape, ironed onto black fabric. The backing paper was removed when the Bondaweb was cool. The sh
