When your deskstop crashes . .

The 12 workshops that I am currently filming       Argghh!!! It was all going to well!! Have you ever lost work on your computer? I have learned a big lesson when editing videos - save the entire file first, then start editing. The software that I use to edit my videos crashed while it was exporting a finished file - without saving it. Groan.  So, back into the studio to record the final part of Bonkers about Bondaweb. The second workshop I have recorded for the Experimental Textiles Video Library & Membership. At least it was only the last shorter section of the workshop. I am really enjoying recording all my workshops, even with the hiccups. It is good to revisit processes I have been developing and teaching for a good many years. The new membership is only available to my newsletter subscribers, you can subscribe at the bottom of any page of my website - www.kimthittichai.com The membership already includes students who have signed up from variou...

I have been sulking!!

Image
Sunrise on September 29th Another on September 2nd It's been a while. I was sulking, Yes!! I know it is unattractive at my great age . .  Having the new website built was fantastic. It is so exciting to be able host private groups, my online teaching and in a couple of months, the new online workshop library. There was just one problem, because of changing technology, I was told I couldn't link this blog to the website - Blogger was too old! Until last week when I was having teething problems with the new online program and I mentioned it the guy from Wix who was helping me. And he worked out how to link it to the website, and it refreshes every time I post a new blog - AND the search engine on the blog still functions.  I can't tell you how EXCITED and happy I am. I have been writing this blog since July 2010 - 12 years. Most of my teaching of the last 12 years has been written up on here so if you wanted to know more about Tyvek, Design, Lutradur, Heat guns etc - just...

Time to plan the next 5 years . . and a smashing time!!

2 new pieces of textile art work       Phew!! Well, that was a whirlwind of a month or so. What with visitors staying and getting my new work ready to hang, it has been none stop.  It has been wonderful to finally have visitors to stay now that Shannon, my local airport, is opening up. More flights are being added every month, it is very encouraging. However, there was the added irritation of the studio door coming off it's rail and smashing that really didn't help.  I really didn't need this . . . Groan! It is very handy having large sheets of farm plastic stored in my big shed. The boarded and secure door. It can be locked. A local builder has kindly boarded the door so I can still use it, but is does make the studio very dark. Which is an issue when I am filming or doing a live stream. Any of you that watched the live stream I did for Vlieseline on Saturday will have seen what I mean. If you haven't seen it yet - hop over to the Vlieseline Freudenberg ...

Scrumptious Spunbond at Sylvia McCann's studio - Torquay June 18th

Image
A beautiful composition, good use of colour and texture with interesting positive and negative shapes!!! Whilst I am now on my fourth day of my 'tour' of The West Country, I am still catching up with the blog - there are only so many hours in the day. Day two saw me teaching at Sylvia McCanns studio in Babbacombe, Torquay, teaching Scrumptious Spunbond. This is the second time I have taught at Sylvia's studio. A well equipped studio that is large, light and airy and is a joy to teach in. Sylvia and her daughter Alison always look after everyone really well.  We had a large group 15 in all, but the joy of working at Sylvias is that there is power to all the tables  - bliss! The group worked with decorated painted Bondaweb, polyester organza and Vilene Spunbond.  The painted Bondaweb drying in the garden.  We painted up some Bondaweb and while that as drying we had a play with soldering irons. Unpainted Bondaweb was ironed onto Vilene Spunbond CS500...

New Layered Textile Techniques at Denman College

Image
Beautiful repeat shapes - individual baked cheesecakes with honey sauce!!!! I am back teaching at Denman College  having a great time with a fabulous group, they are very funny and VERY naughty at times - perfect!  Denman is a beautiful place at which to teach, stunning grounds with beautiful flower borders and an amazing collection of mature specimen trees. The food is also very good . . . .   We can be healthy if we want to - with fruit salad . . . . . but if there is lemon and lime posset - no competition! The textiles studio is very spacious with plenty of power. A great place in which to play. I am very lucky to teach here. Guess who has the most messy table? The girls working hard. Torn painted Bondaweb decorated with foils, sequins and threads. Torn painted Bondaweb decorated with flower petals. A simple, but very pleasing composition.  . . . . and of course - we are using newspaper - well it is a Layered T...
