Layers of Tyvek layered with polyester organza, machine stitched together and then zapped with a heat gun. This has been a very whizzy week, this will be a brief post. The Fibre Forum with Tafta Inc at Geelong is a hysterical, amazing and wonderful event. There are so many people involved, we have had an amazing time so far - we have even got some work done.  I am teaching a 5 version of Hot Textiles, this includes experimenting with painted Bondaweb/Vliesofix, Tyvek, Lutradur/CS800 and the heavier interfacings, S133 and Decovil 1 and Decovil 1 light. Here are a range of corsages made from Tyvek. . .           This is how they start . .     . . . and how they finish, with a bit of TLC from an iron, baking parchment and a soldering iron. Tinkering with Tyvek - Foredown Tower 13th/14th July

Two scrumptious Tyvek corsages. We had a great weekend at Foredown Tower, a small but perfectly formed group of five. It was a great luxury to have two days to play with Tyvek, normally it is just included as one of many products in a workshop.  Tyvek is a very versatile product which responds well to heat. It can be heated and shaped while hot so Tyvek is great for making three dimensional objects such as bowls and beads. It can be ironed lightly between baking parchment to create beautiful textures and also distressed and shaped with a heat gun.                                 Some of the corsages made on the weekend. This is Pip making a rather large bead . . .     She made a few more and created a  . . . hair ornament!!!!   Claire making one of many beads.   A select...

Catching up with friends.

This is just a quick post - it has been a very busy day. This show is SO good, such an amazing collection of textile artists, college stands, textile groups and so much more - I am so lucky to be there. It has been a great opportunity to catch up with friends that I haven't seen for a while - Claire Muir is one of them. Claire's work is stunning - she creates the most beautiful corsages, headpieces, fascinators - what ever you need. Most of Claire's work is for weddings and special occasions and made to order. I was mesmerised by the exquisite work and the way she had displayed it on her stand.    This is free machine embroidery in stunning form. For more information about Claire go to her website http://www.clairemuir.co.uk/index.asp .
