Hot Layered Textiles - Nailsworth Subsrciption Rooms May 10th & 11th

A rather delicious collection of decorated and zapped polyester organza.  This was the last workshop on my West Country run. I must admit I was a wee bit tired by the time I got there. All these workshops seemed like such a great idea at the time!!! Hot Layered Textiles is a combination workshop. Working with requested products. The products chosen for Nailsworth were Lutradur/CS800 Vilene Spunbond, Tyvek, Bondaweb and polyester organza. When you are teaching a run of workshops in a certain area it is important to make sure you don't teach something similar too close to another one. It's all in the planning - which took about a year!!  The workshop organiser, Becca, approached me when she heard that I was planning a run of workshops in Devon and Cornwall and asked if I might add Nailsworth either at the beginning or the end of the run. We decided I would do it at the end.  A very enthusiastic group working away happily. The workshop was held in t...

A lecture and workshop in St Albans.

A FAB Tyvek sample. I gave a lecture on Friday night in Chiswell Green near St Albans . It almost went like clockwork - I had a problem with my lap top talking to the projector. It is what we all dread and it was the first time it had happened. aaRGGHH!! The lovely ladies of Hertfordshire Guild were very patient while we sorted it. There were lots of familiar faces from workshops I have taught at Art Van Go and several regulars from the shows so the ten minute wait wasn't as excruciating as it might have been.  Painting up the Bondaweb, Tyvek and Vilene Spunbond. The following day we had a workshop in the church hall for sixteen. Gulp! it is always a worry with that many students because of the power supply we need. Added to that the lovely Sue Dunkerley wanted the workshop to include painted Bondaweb and Tyvek AND Spunbond.  As you will see the students worked hard and produced some fabulous samples - it was bit of a rush to get everything done - bu...

Creative Fibre Festival - 2 day workshop part 1

Image
Painted Vilene Spunbond CS 800 with Bondaweb ironed onto the back, cut with a soldering iron and ironed onto black cotton - basically applique - just using a soldering iron to cut the fabric as opposed to scissors. This technique can only be done with synthetic fabrics - soldering irons will not cut natural fabrics. After the joys of the Creative Fibre Festival  (www.fibrefestival2012.blogspot.co.uk do have a look and scroll right down) I taught a 2 day workshop - Extreme Surfaces for Stitch - Because some of the students weren't aware of some of the basic techniques we started right at the beginning so we ended up with more of a Slightly Less Extreme Surfaces for Stitch. The main thing is the students got the information that they needed.  Painted Bondaweb and various weights of Vilene Spunbond drying .  I thought Alison's plastic apron was particularly fetching - on the right . Denise my minder mucking about for the camera on the left and C...
