The Jersey Textile Showcase - March 5th - 11th Part the second . . .

Painted Bondaweb ironed onto black cotton decorated with transfer foil and gilding flake.  The third workshop I taught was 'On the Surface', a fast paced 3 hour workshop that was great fun and full of very naughty students - the main protagonist was Denice Walker who attended all my workshops - we had a great time. The entire time of the The Jersey Textile Showcase felt like a fast moving, most enjoyable holiday. On the Surface is a painted Bondaweb based workshop where all kinds of glitter and sparkle is allowed.  This was the main table of naughtiness . . . there was quite a party atmosphere!  Here are just a few of the samples -      As you can see the group were prolific - and talented. There were several functions in the evenings - one of them being a rather splendid 'do' at the local posh hotel. My it was fabulous.  This is a photo of, from the left, Val Holmes, Pat Robson, the very glamorous and tireless orga

A fabulous sample created on the short On the Surface workshop Saturday afternoon. After a dismal start on Friday - I eventually arrived in Belfast 4 hours late. I missed my flight as the M23 was closed due to flooding. A journey that usually takes 30 minutes took three and a half hours - aarrgHH!!! I was met by the lovely Janet who whisked me away to look at the sea and then off to a local bird sanctuary - Castle Espie, where I had the best rhubarb pie and ice cream I have ever had - deeelicious! Then it was on to Chez Breen to meet Catherine and Noel my hosts for the next two nights. I have never been so well looked after. This post will be in three parts as these lovely ladies created a great deal of fabulous work. On Saturday morning I delivered my lecture which was well received - then we had lunch and I taught a short version of On the Surface. In just two and a half hours the group produced some beautiful work. The group working hard . . . Very

A stunning piece of work combining Tyvek with decorated and painted Bondaweb. Denman College is the home of the W.I. The main building is Georgian and is set in beautiful grounds with many specimen trees. I always have great fun there - you seem to get a different type of student, I can't quite put my finger on it, but they are usually up for anything. You no longer need to be a member of the W.I.to enrol on courses so do have a look and see if anything takes your fancy - www.denman.org.uk The workshop I was delivering was On the Surface - my basic Bondaweb course with a bit of Tyvek thrown in for good measure. As the courses I teach at Denman are residential the students can work in the evenings which means we can get a bit more done. Usually stitch - a very important part of my teaching.    The group working in The Ferris Room - there were 10 in all. The maximum, such a treat to have low numbers. As the jam festival was on while I was there we weren't
