People and Places at The Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show. 17th - 20th March

There was me, all excited about sh owing you my stu dents work at the NEC - and I forgot to show you mine!! Susan Chapman and I had a gallery space at the show entitled People and Places. S usan loves observing people and you will no doub t be aware that I love all kinds of N a t ure and Her textures . It is a good thing that Susan makes large quilts, bec ause surprise, surprise, I didn't get all the work I thought I would do, done.     The beginnings of the hanging . . Susan up a step ladder. It was great to get the chance to spend some time with Susan and enjoy her fabulous work. I love how well observed her figures are, deceptively simple, but showing the stance of a person with a glance - a great skill.   Everyone loved this quilt, nearly everyone recognised where the image was f rom.

The Geelong Fibre Forum - September 27th - October 3rd. Part the first -

Layers of Tyvek layered with polyester organza, machine stitched together and then zapped with a heat gun. This has been a very whizzy week, this will be a brief post. The Fibre Forum with Tafta Inc at Geelong is a hysterical, amazing and wonderful event. There are so many people involved, we have had an amazing time so far - we have even got some work done.  I am teaching a 5 version of Hot Textiles, this includes experimenting with painted Bondaweb/Vliesofix, Tyvek, Lutradur/CS800 and the heavier interfacings, S133 and Decovil 1 and Decovil 1 light. Here are a range of corsages made from Tyvek. . .           This is how they start . .     . . . and how they finish, with a bit of TLC from an iron, baking parchment and a soldering iron. And we layered 3 sheets of 75gm Tyvek with polyester organza, machine stitched together and then zapped back with a gun to create some fabulous textures. and we made beads . . . And now we are work

Experimental Textiles - Home work from session 6 - Dyeing natural and synthetic fabrics

 A lovely concoction of natural fibres and hand stitch. I am slowly catching up with my life - and this blog. I still have a load of emails to reply to, including yours Diana. I hope to catch up with a lot while I am up here at the the show.  Chris and Laura mucking about as we set up the stand. On this Valentines evening I am laying on my bed at my lovely guest house that we stay in when we do a show at the NEC. Laura, The other Vilene consultant, is in the room next door. We both manged to get up here despite the M40 and M1 being closed. We have set up the stand and have sorted all the materials we need for our 3 workshops. The show is Craft, Hobby and Stitch International, it's a trade show. I work with Vilene and run their retailer workshops. I am struggling with my knee at the moment, Laura is being a star and helping her old mate with the lifting and the carrying. I will write more about the show next week - now on with this post.
